Abrasions

Symptoms

  • raw, scaleless area on the body (most often the snout)
  • may or may not be bleeding

Cause

  • attempting to escape terrarium
  • injuries from live prey

Treatment

Wash the wound with a warm chlorhexidine solution and administer providone-iodine with a cotton swab to the affected area. Antibiotic ointment will also work, but don’t bother with a bandage, as it won’t stay on. Let the treatment dry before letting the snake back in its enclosure, keeping it clean until the area has healed.

Watch out for stuck shed as the injury heals.
